alinsangan

di ko na matagalan
lagkit ng katawan
dala ng hanging maalinsangan

ilang beses mang ulitin
ang pagligo ng matulin
hindi pa rin ako patutulugin

sa aking pagtanaw
mula sa bintanang sumisingaw
bumungad ang babalang bukas ula'y aapaw

pano'y talamak
makakapal na ulap
hudyat ng pagpungay ng dalawang talukap

Tiffany - All This Time (1988)

talking about the 80's, im so surprised on how this song's so familiar to me that i was able to sing the words right when i hear it. i didnt know anything about Tiffany until i read wikipedia moments ago. she's the one who sang "Could have been", a song Gelay would usually sing on our videoke trips.

plush

i havent really written anything in a while. i actually had written several drafts but havent finished writing any of them so i opted not to publish anything at all. but i might go back to them later as i really love the concept of my "the scorching heat of the sun makes my skin scream SUNSCREEN!" entry (title that i was so fond of i put it on my IM status) and the other one that i've written for the Earth Day.

anyways, it's been a week since i stopped reporting in the office. i finally admitted to myself that i could really not focus on my thesis if i would let my work eat much of time since i couldnt spend less time on work. it requires me at least 9 hours (at workplace) of my 24 precious hours including the breaks and excluding the one-hour travel time. take that 10 hours plus my 6-hour sleep leaves me at least 8 hours for my thesis. thought i could handle it last semester. i should be marching last night with the other graduates of 2008 had i turn in my thesis. i hadnt. i got an INC on my class card instead. my problem now is that i only have a month to complete it so to graduate this summer! definitely, i need to choose. so much for the 'i can manage' ego. i really need to give up one. so bye bye work.

seems like a month has already passed but it's only been a week. my fast paced world suddenly mellowed down and it's not doing me good. i miss the action, my friends at work and my work. guess i have inherited my mom's workaholic genes.

maybe i should just appreciate this luxury of time that i used to dream of possessing. i have more time now for research, thesis writing, visiting the company i'm doing the records management program for, walking around the campus, playing with my cats, bumming around the house, watching the unending tv serries, checking my mails, spending time with old pals, and yes, more time for myself.

the scorching heat of the sun makes my skin scream "Sunscreen!"

i went straight to UP after my work. going out from an 18 degree centigrade building to a 36 degree street is quite a nauseating experience.

Lips Of An Angel

for months now, a coworker has been playing this song over and over in a day (Lord have mercy) that i got really pissed off that it made me want to unplug his computer. but then patience is a virtue. after hearing the song for like around ten times a day every day in a span of three months, i got used to it and eventually liked it hahahaha. so now, i dont mind it being played for so many times when im at work.

traveling tips for starters (quoted from Jeruen Deri)

Pammy, di ko pa naeedit pero taung 2 plang naman nakakakita nito. :)

1. arrange all travel arrangements by yourself,

don't go for packages as much as possible.

2. select just one country, or better yet, just

one city (especially if you're planning to go to

 enormous places like europe).

and i quote

"elektrik_blue_82: id rather recommend selecting

perhaps, just a country
elektrik_blue_82: or, kung beginner travelers,

just a city
elektrik_blue_82: I would be happy to assist

you"

3. avoid august for europe, mejo high season pa

iyan. sept  or october is better, shoulder

season sila.

4. find a lonely planet book in a good

bookstore. look for lonely planet vienna or buy

the country guide instead.

5. travel books are never meant to be stored

6. research on what you want to visit

7. try to shop around for travel agents but dont

buy the first quote you get.

8. go to expedia.com to check some flight rates

9. e-tickets arent the norm yet in Manila so

grab a phone directory and canvass

elektrik_blue_82: I just plugged in random dates

in October, for a week-long stay
elektrik_blue_82: and I found Internet fares,

but they are rather high
elektrik_blue_82: I am sure you can get lower

fares by talking to a real travel agent there
Lei: oh ok
elektrik_blue_82: Expedia.com told me that you

can get a flight for 1404 USD on Philippine

Airlines and Swiss International Airlines..you

go by PAL to Hong Kong, and from there, you go

to Zurich on Swiss, and transfer to Swiss for

Vienna

10. direct flights are most of the time, more

expensive..believe it or not, connecting flights

are cheaper..you are paying for the convenience

of not connecting, kaya mahal

elektrik_blue_82: you can also check KLM,

Emirates, China Airlines, and Qatar Airways
elektrik_blue_82: they offer flights both to

Vienna and Manila
elektrik_blue_82: so you can connect using just

one airline
elektrik_blue_82: I just plugged again random

dates in October on the Qatar Airways website
elektrik_blue_82: and guess what?
elektrik_blue_82: you can find flights for as

low as 1130 USD round trip
elektrik_blue_82: you will connect in Doha,

Qatar
elektrik_blue_82: i believe you can buy directly

from the airline's website
elektrik_blue_82: although tingnan mo pa rin

yung rates ng travel agents
elektrik_blue_82: i just did the same search on

Emirates, pero mas mahal sila
elektrik_blue_82: around 1340 USD

11. the budget revolves mostly on the airfare

and hotel

12.after getting the airfare and hotel, budget

around 75 USD per day, that is a mid-range

estimate

elektrik_blue_82: 75 USD per day does not

involve your hotel payment ok

elektrik_blue_82: the dollar is weak at the

moment, so consider the exchange rate with the

euro
elektrik_blue_82: and the rest depends on your

preferences
elektrik_blue_82: are you more into shopping?
elektrik_blue_82: do you like to visit plenty of

museums and stuff?
elektrik_blue_82: or are you more into cheaper

activities like hiking the wilderness? or

perhaps costly activities like bungee-jumping

from the Donauturm>

13. here is where your Lonely Planet can be

useful

elektrik_blue_82: it lists museums, together

with their entry fees, and you can estimate how

much you need

14. back in 2005, entrance to the

Kunsthistoriches Muzeum in Vienna was 6.50 EUR

for students
elektrik_blue_82: bring your student ID, it can

sometimes give you discounts

15. so you have to read through the guidebooks

and see what you want to do. go to the Lonely

Planet website too, they have travel advice that

is usually reliable

16. stay safe

17. know your travelers IQ - the guidebooks

usually list the do's and don'ts of the area.

such as what the area is known for crime-wise
elektrik_blue_82: believe me, that guidebook

will be your bible during your stay

18. and good thing that it is europe you're

visiting, they are more knowledgeable in

english. for my Peru trip, I have a phrasebook

in 1) Latin American Spanish and 2) Quechua

http://ikatlongnobela.bravehost.com

Surfing the net for a web host trying to help my brother out for his website project, I bumped into this site - http://ikatlongnobela.bravehost.com. I was like hahahaha, it looks awful now. I am referring to the first ever site I’ve uploaded on the web three years ago. It wasn't the first site that I created but it was the first one I uploaded. We had to submit a final project for PI 100 and my groupmates and I thought it would be best to make a website. Aside from helping on the research, I spent nights just to finish the site. Somehow, it was successful. Sir Monico Atienza liked the idea he even gave us materials for it. By the way, I wonder how he is now. The last time I heard of him was that he's still in coma. :(

Sir Monico is one of the best professors I ever had in UP. I saw how passionate he is when talking about Rizal and his works and his literature. Attending his class was never boring for I enjoyed his way of teaching. It’s like he's just telling us stories. And I love listening to stories that are told in a manner that would draw so much enthusiasm and gusto from the listener. Not to mention the doses of rare Filipino words we get from time to time. I wasn’t supposed to be in his class but because my best friend's a friend of his, she introduced me to him and I took the opportunity to prerog that sem to his class. It was a semester of enlightening. I remember sleeping on a bed filled with Rizal books (books written by Rizal and books about him). It was the start of my romance with Pepe (I named my best friend's son after Rizal or 'Pepe', who turned out to be a brilliant child with the Rizal hair too hehe), which gradually waned when my priorities shifted (I'm planning to resurrect it though). arghh. I miss him :D and Sir Monico too. I should thank Sir Monico for introducing me to my beloved Pepe. And Pepe for opening my eyes.

Going back to Ikatlong Nobela ni Rizal, I can't help being amazed thinking I (Arvi, correct me if I'm wrong) wrote this part of the site IN TAGALOG :D -- Ang Paghahanap

what's so special about 2008?

"Hay salamat sa Diyos, haluy ku ng hinahalat ang apud mu. Nuarin mu aku iimbitaran na magdiyan?" (Thank God, I've been waiting for your call. When are you gonna invite me over?) -- That was Nanay's (my grandmother) opening spiel when I called her yesterday. It was a little hard responding in Bicol in Tagalog accent "Ahm, hehehehe, ano po, dae man po matutuloy ta nagkaproblema po ay" (Uhm, hehe, it will not gonna push through because there was a probem). "Bakin, anung problima?" (Why, what's the problem?). I need a little white lie again "Dae po kaya na-credit ang saro kong subject" (One of my subjects was not credited). "Anung sabjek baga itu.?" (What subject is it?) Oops, I didn't expect she would ask. "IT 100 po." It's true that it wasn't credited but I already wrote the Vice Chancellor last year. "Sabi ni Angkul Gener mu, ito daw na thesis. Anu baga itu?" (Your Uncle Gener said it was the thesis. What is it?) Tumpak. That was the real reason why I will not be gaduating this semester or this year. I really wanted to graduate this academic year for one, I don't wanna write the Vice Chancellor again for MRR approval. And for another, it's the University's Centennial, come on, I'm pretty sure that this year's University graduation is going to be so special. :D

Sigh.

I’m thinking, if I chose to not accept the job I have now and just focus on my thesis at the start of this semester, would I be marching this April? I promised my grandmother that I'm going to march this April. She said she wanted to attend the graduation but I didn't know that she'd really look forward to it. How many times did she send me money for my tuition fee? Thinking about that, it makes me feel really awful. I've been in the university for so long that this huge campus shrunk to be my small tambayan. My batch mates are now working. Some have finished their master’s degree already. And some are starting th
eir own family. Whew. Not to mention - I'm getting old!

Not being able to get what you wanted makes you wanna scream so loud until your throat tightens so hard that it could not allow the air to pass through it. I do want to graduate. But I think I'm more afraid of what comes after the graduation – the real world and GREATER EXPECTATIONS from the people that you don't want to let down. And I never wanted anybody to
expect much from me because I never want to let anybody down. It pressures me. It uninspires me. It makes me want to just stop.

And so here I am, stuck in the space between failure and success. I'm just a step away from graduating in college. All I need is to finish the thesis that I started three years ago. Only that it was not approved last semester so I had to start from the scratch again. What has happened? Well, I guess it's just a little drawback from taking a course that's not even my inclinati
on.

But now I’m beginning to see why fate has taken me to the doorsteps of the School of Library and Information Studies (then the Institute of Library and Information Science) few Junes back (I mean years back!). I have this insatiable thirst for information. I think I really belong here. So, bitterness aside, I wanted to greet all the graduates of 2008 a CongraDulations, Mabuhay ka kabataang Pinoy! Be brave to stay hungry and foolish! (“Stay hungry. Stay Foolish” from Steve Jobs, CEO, chairman and co-founder of Apple Inc.) Let the world see how great we Filipinos are. And to Nanayski – magraduate din po ako, don’t worry. :D soon! Again, CongraDulations...

huhuhu - bitterness aside daw
uhm, tears of joy ;p

Papaya: of course, it wasnt just sung, there's a little secret behind it

i dunno how it was called but Urszula Dudziak shares her little secret on why the Papaya sounds fantastic. Is it because of her five-octave vocal range? find out at the end part of the clip so stay tuned ;)

Urszula Dudziak does the Papaya dance!

hehe, well, i suddenly became curious of Urszula Dudziak and so i researched a bit about her, her songs, and other stuff when i bumped into this interview clip which features her singing and dancing the Papaya Dance. (i was really amazed finding out it was really sung. all along i thought it was just arranged/mixed in a studio.)

Papaya Dance featured in Good Morning America

tha papaya craze hahaha. i've just seen this. i was watching the 'Pilipinas Game Ka Na Ba?' this morning when Edu Manzano (PGKNB host and the one who resurrected Urszula Dudziak's song called Papaya, and who choreographed the distinct move popularly known as the Papaya Dance) mentioned that the song was featured in Good Morning America. And so i checked the YouTube and found this video. Enjoy :D
